You had an amazing night out with friends. One drink led to another, and eventually you lost count and started to REALLY enjoy the party. What followed was a late morning with a hangover and the classic question “What happened last night?” Ok, this can happen to the best of us! So here is a natural cure for those crazy hangover nights.
Last weekend I was perusing at the annual Green Living Show, and came across a recipe that JaxCoco was giving out - Hangover Cure. Below is the recipe, but before you grab your blender and try it out, let me tell you a bit about why this recipe could potentially work to cure your hangover.
The main ‘hangover ingredients’ in this smoothie are coconut water and bananas!
Coconut water – Alcohol depletes our body of much needed minerals and dehydrates our system. Coconut water can restore our body with the following five electrolytes: potassium, sodium, magnesium, phosphorous, and calcium. You could technically replace coconut water with Gatorade, but you would only get two types of electrolytes instead of five, and a bunch of sugar and artificial colourings. So stick to real pure coconut water.
Bananas – Bananas are packed with potassium and a healthy mix of fructose and glucose which will help metabolize the toxins caused by the alcohol and restore glycogen levels.

Ingredients: ~ makes 2 servings
- 2 cups of coconut water
- 1 large banana
- 1 kiwi
- 2 generous pineapple rounds
- Chop, blend and enjoy before you go out for the night, and the morning after.
- Tip: To turn this into a hearty breakfast smoothie, add half an avocado, a handful of baby kale or spinach, some fresh mint leaves and a tablespoon of chia seeds.
